Toshiba or Daikin — which should I choose?

Both are Japanese brands with excellent reliability. Daikin is pricier with a wider premium range; Toshiba Yukai and Shorai give similar compressor quality at 15–25 % less. For an apartment bedroom or living room Toshiba is the sensible pick.

Which Toshiba series is the quietest?

Daiseikai and Shorai Edge — about 20 dB on the lowest setting. Yukai is slightly louder (about 22 dB) but perfectly fine for a bedroom in night mode.
